Are you keen to be part of a growing charity with a focus on making a difference to vulnerable young people in your local area?

Herts Young Homeless work with 16-24 year olds who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, those aged 10-15 whose families are at risk of relationship breakdown and those aged 18+ who are in housing need and have mental health and substance misuse problems. Last year we were able to directly support 2,495 young people and engaged with nearly 9,000 schoolchildren on the realities of leaving home. Our focus is on preventing homelessness by empowering young people to make positive informed choices, through a range of free, countywide, specialist preventative and crisis services.

Position Purpose and key responsibilities:

* Provide advice and guidance on a wide range of employee relations issues

* To keep up to date with changes to legislation and best practice and implement these within the organisation

* Proactively research solutions to issues and provide appropriate advice, evidencing sound decision making skills

* Manage complex employee relations casework including (but not limited to) dispute resolutions, disciplinaries, grievances, absence, retirement and redundancy

* Advise managers on the terms and conditions of employment and knowledge share best practice with them

* Advise line managers on performance issues, sickness absence, maternity and paternity leave, grievances, benefits and pay queries

* Coach line managers in best practice with employee relations

* Develop HR policy and procedures to drive performance and mitigate disputes

* Provide first line advice on current and existing benefits for employees and managers

* Work with appropriate parties on reward strategy

* Support the recruitment process including, writing job descriptions and preparing interview questions and applications forms

* Manage talent and succession planning

* Carry out new starter inductions

* Monitor and review HR policies and processes an implement changes where necessary

* Participate in specific projects to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the organisation

* Liaise with the organisations external HR support provider where necessary

Requirements:

You will be CIPD Level 5 qualified or higher/Associate Member of CIPD

Previous experience in a HR generalist role

You will have experience of dealing with a wide range of HR issues

Sound working knowledge of employment law

A good level of numeracy and literacy

Excellent understanding of confidentiality with strict professional boundaries and personal integrity

A fair, objective and non-judgemental attitude

A commitment to undertake training as required and an enthusiasm for new challenges

A positive commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice

Ability to communicate effectively, in writing and verbally, with colleagues and partners at all organisational levels

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and persuade a wide range of individuals and audiences

Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Internet and Email

A Full driving licence and use of own car or motorbike for business purposes

Desirable:

Experience in the voluntary sector
