Assistant Fund Accountant (Hybrid role) - Asset Management

My client is a boutique asset manager with around 140 staff, headquartered in London and expanding internationally into Europe and the US. The company has continued successfully to grow with a strong culture and prides itself on delivering outstanding client service.

This Assistant Fund Accountant role sits within the dedicated Company Secretarial team, which provides accounting and administrative support to three investment trusts and the firms Corporate Group. My client are seeking an additional team member to support the Investment Trust fund accountant with accounting duties and to strengthen the operation and management of the Groups' in-house share plans.

This opportunity will provide the successful applicant with the ability to qualify in accounting, and to continue to develop their experience, working alongside the current team.

Responsibilities will include:

Accounting:

  • Shadowing the current Investment Trust fund accountant.
  • Assisting in reviewing various accounts.
  • Monitoring and reconciling external accounting services.
  • Preparation of various board reports and preparation of statutory accounts for inclusion within the annual and half year reports.
  • Liaison with other internal departments, such as Finance and HR and Employee Benefit Trust.

Share Plan Administration:

  • Oversee, in conjunction with the existing manager, the operation and all aspects of the various share plans.
  • Issuing and releasing awards to staff.
  • Provide general advice to award holders on how the plans work, what action they need to take, and general tax advice in conjunction with payroll.
  • Communicate with Equiniti, who administer the SAYE arrangements to cover annual invitations and exercises.
  • Develop and improve existing record keeping to reflect the growing complexity of the firm and the awarding of options to overseas employees.
  • Work with the senior executive to research and develop new and/or replacement share plans as required from time to time.

Ideal Candidate:

Because this is a hybrid role involving a mix of fund accounting and share plan administration, the ideal candidate could be either:

A full or part qualified accountant with ideally some knowledge or exposure to share plan administration.

OR

An experienced share plan manager with some accounting experience.

Key Skills required:

  • Part qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA
  • You will be organised and methodical and will have an enquiring, problem solving approach.
  • An excellent communicator is essential as you will be engaging with all areas of the workforce including the senior executives of the business. This will involve explaining the share plans to all levels of staff and be flexible in assisting them achieve a satisfactory result from the awards.
  • Ability to liaise with internal and external consultants such as including tax lawyers, the London Stock Exchange, brokers and Nomad.
