HR Advisor for a Law Firm

On-Going Temp

£15.00 – 16.00 per hour  

I am currently recruiting for a law firm based in the City. Specialising in high-value and complex disputes they have the highest track record of success. They are now seeking an experienced HR Advisor to join the team immediately on an on-going temporary basis. All candidates applying for this role must have previous and proven experience in a similar role and have ideally worked for a law firm or other professional services.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As the HR Advisor you will be working closely with the HR Director. The HR team is made up of 5-6 people and you will have the chance to build some very close working relationships along the way. You will be the first point of contact in respect of operational HR matters for employees within the departments they support. You will have the chance to be involved in HR Projects, appraisal moderation and salary reviews – So being able to deal with confidential documentation is key! Overall this role is a Generalist position and you need to be able to wear many hats in this position.

Typical duties include:

  • Provide advice and guidance on policy or procedural issues to employees, managers and partners

  • Proactively work with the Employee Relations Manager and Senior HR Managers to identify changes and improvements to employment policies and practices

  • Act as the main point of contact for staff regarding any concerns or issues that affect them

  • Manage all aspects of the maternity, paternity, shared parental and unpaid leave processes and oversee reintegration on return from leave

  • Regularly monitor sickness absence statistics and review those with excess levels of absence and discuss next course of action with relevant head of department / line manager

  • Work with the HR Service Delivery Team to co-ordinate the joiners and leavers processes to ensure all documentation is produced in an effective and timely manner

  • Ensure there is regular contact with new joiners from offer acceptance to joining the firm, providing information as required to facilitate an effective transition into their new role and to Norton Rose Fulbright

  • Monitor the end of probation process and provide guidance to managers on performance issues.

  • Liaise with the Recruitment team regarding vacancies and appointments to ensure a timely and cost effective recruitment solution

  • Promoting the use of alternative resourcing options where appropriate (e.g. Flexible Associates, Consultants and use of Newcastle Hub), providing opportunities for our people to be developed and retained.

WHO YOU ARE

To be successful, you will have to have experience with working for a law firm within HR previously

Essential requirements:

  • Previous HR experience at HR Assistant / HR Advisor level, ideally in a Professional Services or Legal environment

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demanding internal clients

  • Strong organisational skills

  • Ability to manage time effectively

  • Strong GCSEs and A-levels (or equivalent)

  • Ideally a degree in an HR related subject

  • Must present a professional, friendly and client focused attitude and approach at all times

  • Confident and flexible approach to taking on new tasks and projects
