Our client, a renowned arts organisation, requires a Governance and Policy Manager to start ASAP. This is a 3-month contract until they recruit someone permanently.

The main duties of the Governance and Policy Manger are:

  • Managing the paper-flow and production of reports to the Board of Trustees
  • Deputise for the Head of the Director's Office as needed by acting as Secretary to the Board of Trustees.
  • Support the Director and Chair in managing performance of the Board of Trustees.
  • Deliver governance best practice through undertaking an annual Board Effectiveness review and responding to the Internal Governance Audits
  • Guide and support Directors and Trustees in servicing the site Councils and sub-committees
  • Assist with overseeing and implementing a review of non-executive governance
  • Support the Governance and Policy Coordinator in creating and maintaining the annual meeting schedule
  • Ensure effective business flow between the Board of Trustees, senior management groups, Councils and sub-committees by maintaining an agenda planner, and keeping an overview of agendas
  • Act as Secretary at monthly meetings for the Management teams
  • Assist with maintaining records
  • Work with the Head of the Director's Office and to create and improve governance processes as appropriate
  • Establish and maintain Trustee and other committee handbooks and guidance
  • Manage the induction process and training initiatives
  • Maintain internal policy framework

The successful candidate must have experience of corporate governance and/or process and business management with a degree or equivalent in arts, humanities, education or related subject or able to demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge and thinking ability gained through experience. You need to have excellent communication skills, both spoken and written, be highly organised and able to remain calm and focussed while working under pressure. You need to have substantial experience of meetings administration in a complex organisation at either senior management or not-executive level, including complex agenda preparation, minuting and progress chasing and have a high degree of computer literacy.
