Business Support Officer

Communities Economy and Transport Department

£28,802 - £31,112

Full Time – Permanent

Location: County Hall, Lewes, East Sussex

The services delivered by the Communities, Economy and Transport department (CET) have an enormous impact on the lives of local people and the natural environment. From operating waste facilities and registration offices, to maintaining roads and major infrastructure planning, the moment an East Sussex resident steps outside their front door, they are interacting with our work. Therefore, roles in our department offer enormous scope to make a positive impact on the quality of life for people and the environment of East Sussex. We are looking for people who can help us to improve the links between the areas we operate in, such as using libraries, improving adult literacy, transporting vulnerable people to the shops to help keep them independent or installing high speed broadband to support businesses to modernise.

In this fascinating role at the heart of local government you’ll work closely with the Director of Communities Economy & Transport (CET) as a member of a small business support team within the CET Department.

You’ll have lead responsibility for providing the Director with personal assistant support, from scheduling regular diary appointments to organising high level meetings and events, managing forward plans, preparing agendas, coordinate reports and taking minutes for meetings chaired by the Director so organisational skills are essential.

The need for us to be efficient, offer value for money and reduce costs has never been stronger and the role will assist the Director by undertaking research into central government policies and best practice from other local authorities.

You will be an Administrator for the case management system used for correspondence, responsible for managing enquiries that comes into the department and produce quarterly reports for the Department Management Team.

Dynamic, flexible, curious and able to run with anything, you’ll be discreet with excellent judgement and able to maintain confidentiality.

Due to the department’s commitment to partnership working, and the collaboration required both within the team and across the Council, you should be excellent at building relationships at all levels.

It’s essential that you have Microsoft Office skills and desirable that you have some experience relating to programme/project support.

Last but not least, you’ll be a natural at customer care.
