Temporary Community Shop Manager, Cumbria
We are looking for a passionate, experienced and engaging Shop Manager to provide management cover in a for a well recognised organisation's shop based in Keswick, Cumbria. All that this company wants to do is some good in the world and this is your unique chance to jump on board and work with a loving and passionate charity! The role is for up to three months, paying £10-11 per hour.
Who will you be working for?
The company is a leading global charity with an international presence engaging in aid relief and emergency support to children and vulnerable adults. This is an organisation dedicated to helping those in need in all corners of the world. As this organisation is involved with various campaigns and fundraising projects, this means that your time at this company will be both challenging and rewarding. Based in the heart of London Farringdon, great opportunity to explore and venture to various restaurants and bars.
What does the job consist of?
Our client is seeking a candidate who can inspire and empower a team, entrusting volunteers to effectively run the shop and aim to raise as much money as possible to save children's lives.
- To recruit, induct, manage and develop volunteers in the shop
- To work alongside volunteers, ensuring they feel valued, motivated, happy and supported and are united in a common goal to raise as much money for the charity
- You will be responsible for the management of the shop ensuring the organisation's policies, procedures and safeguards are adhered to at all times.
- To work to reach the shops daily agreed financial targets.
- To ensure that our customers and donors receive the highest standards of service and are shown appreciation for their support.
- To process, prepare and price donations for sale ensuring a high standard of display, visual merchandising and shop floor management at all times.
- To role-model professional retail management behaviour at all times.
- To appropriately and enthusiastically manage any interest from potential volunteers.
- To ensure the building and shop equipment are appropriately maintained at all times, reporting any issues to the Regional Manager.
- To complete all necessary paperwork and progress reports as specified by the Regional Retail Manager ensuring they are updated on any extraordinary issues.
- To offer feedback to the Regional Manager about the running of each store and how it can be managed to run more intuitively and simply for the benefit of confident and empowered volunteers, and to offer feedback to the Regional Manager on maximising the sales potential of each store.
- You will conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times, being mindful not to undermine the shop manager or volunteers.
What will the successful candidate be like?

- Exceptional people skills, with an ability attract and get the best out of a diverse team of volunteers
- Ability to drive sales
- Enthusiasm for retail and fashion is essential
- Brilliant communicator
- Demonstrable experience of stock control, cash handling and visual merchandising
- Excellent time management skills to ensure the shops runs effectively within working hours
- Able to illustrate an understanding of issues that result from working with volunteers
- Must be extremely flexible and able to work weekends, Bank Holidays and additional hours and attend various locations throughout London, possibly at short notice
