Work Experience – How to make yourself more employable
Published: 09 Jun 2016 By Tiger Recruitment Ltd
Work experience can come in many different forms. Whether you’re completing a week-long, 6 months or year in industry, there are a variety of benefits of doing so. Leaving education and entering the real world can be a daunting experience, each bit of work experience will develop your CV and lead towards making you much more desirable to employees.
Here are just some of the benefits:
- Skill development – work experience will be able to provide you with sought after skills you may not have developed throughout education e.g. email and phone etiquette, commercial awareness, team working, communication skills and the ability to work in a diverse environment.
- Differentiate yourself– competition for jobs is so fierce it is important to make yourself more employable and stand out from other applicants. Work experience will show you have initiative, willingness to work and have gained an understanding of what it is like to be in a working environment.
- The possibility of job offers– placements can sometimes be used as the first stage in the recruitment process for a full time position. If you perform well and fit within the company, longer term placements can lead to full-time employment.
- Try before you buy – work experience gives you the opportunity to try different companies, sectors and roles to find what suits you. It will also give you the chance to find what type of environment you want to work in.
