I hope you’ve all been out enjoying the gorgeous weather we’ve been blessed with for summer’s last hurrah. I know I certainly have – and I’ve got the empty bottles of aloe Vera to show for it!
Firstly, a work update. It’s been an exciting time over in our company, because we’ve finally been told that we’re gradually going to start coming back into the office. I, for one, am very happy about it. We’ll be back in initially on a part time basis, half the office in for half the week, the other for the other half, that kind of set-up. I think this really is the best of both worlds. I have loved working from home and having more time to do things where I’d otherwise be commuting, but I really do miss my team! Although there will only be half of us in at any one time, I can’t wait to have a bit of office banter back in my life.
As for getting in, I’m still reluctant to get on public transport, and though I am actually very good on the old roller skates, I’m not sure I could manage the approximately 7K journey twice a day in them! So, after much deliberation, I have decided to invest in a bike. Cycling in London has always terrified me, but my friend told me about an app that finds the quietest route, which sounded ideal. I hired a Boris Bike and tried the new route over the weekend and it was actually a lot of fun! Bikes get you places so fast!
Now for the fun part – that socially distanced date I mentioned in my last update! We went for a walk around my local park on a sunny evening, before sitting down with an ice-cold drink by the river, and it was actually delightful. Conversation was interesting, the sun was warm on our faces; what could be better?! However, come the second date I realised that perhaps the conversation was only interesting because he was the first new person I’d spoken to in over 3 months, as the chat was on the floor. It was actively painful trying to move it forward, and you know me – I could talk for England! Oh well, a fun experience and a good story. Onwards and upwards!
I couldn’t let this update pass without mentioning something I get excited about every year – the SecsintheCity PA of the Year Award nominations! I’ve had a few friends nominated in the past and all have said what an exciting process it was, and how lovely it felt to be appreciated in such a way. I’ve got a couple of people in mind I think I may nominate, but you can also nominate yourself if you feel as though you deserve some recognition. We all do! They close in a week so be sure to get your nominations in.
