PA of the Year Awards 2020 | FAQs
With the deadline for PA of the Year Awards nominations fast approaching, we decided to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about the nomination process and the event itself. Check out the information below and, if you still have any questions, feel free to get in touch with us on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter or email.
What do you look for in a nominee?
We are on the lookout for nominees with genuine passion for the profession and love for what they do. This year, we are particularly interested to hear about those who have gone above and beyond in spite of the pressures of a global pandemic. If you’re a PA working in healthcare or an Office Manager who has enabled remote working for their team, we want to hear from you.
How did last year’s winners stand out?
Last year, our judges were blown away by the multi-tasking ability, attention to detail and around the clock availability of PA of the Year winner Sarah Hodson, PA at Michelin-starred restaurant The Social Company and Private PA to the business’ founder and his family. Meanwhile, we were highly impressed by the sense of community and culture that our first ever Office Manager of the Year Cat Mangan had created within her firm.
What can I expect from the interview stage?
The interview stage is not as nerve-wracking as it sounds, but don’t just take our word for it! Here’s how last year’s Legal PA of the Year Joanne Wilson described her interview: “I could not have felt more at ease during the interview process. I was extremely nervous at the start but within a couple of minutes felt like I was sat with my friends just having a cup of tea and a chat. It went so fast and I could not have wished for a more relaxed, friendly, engaging and encouraging interview. It was an utter delight.” Click here to find out more about the interview stage of the PA of the Year Awards.
Will there be an awards ceremony this year?
There will be an awards ceremony this year, however it is not likely to be our usual event at The Ivy. We are currently working out how we can deliver our prestigious awards virtually on November 12 and will share details when they are finalised.
What will the prizes be?
This year some great sponsors have donated fabulous prizes for our winners. Up for grabs is a chocolate hamper from Hotel Chocolat, a Zoom gift experience from Indytute, a bespoke hamper from Khyva and more.
Are there any costs associated with nominations or attendance at the PA of the Year Awards?
Submitting a nomination for the PA of the Year Awards does not entail any costs and neither does attending the ceremony. The entire event is free of charge.
How much experience must nominees have?
The duration of a candidate’s experience is not a factor that we consider when choosing winners. Susanna Tait, PA of the Year Awards judge and Chief Executive of event sponsor Tay Associates, says “it doesn’t matter where or for whom the individuals have worked or for how long. It’s about the unique experiences they have encountered along the way.”
How many nominations do you usually get?
Last year we received around 500 nominations for the PA of the Year Awards.
How many of those are shortlisted?
We usually shortlist 15-20 nominees for the awards, depending on each category.
Who is invited to the awards ceremony?
Usually we invite the shortlisted nominees and their bosses to the ceremony. However, as the event is likely to be virtual this year we may have the capacity to let nominees invite other guests.
When do nominations close?
