KeeleyLawrence

Hi, Keeley. How did you become an EA?

I started as a Receptionist and worked my way up the ladder

What's great about your job at Sky?

The trust I’m showed, the fact that no day is the same, each day bringing a new challenge - and I have the best boss in the world!

What do you love about being an EA?

All of the above, and being trusted! Loyalty is very important - you can’t be good EA unless you have a great relationship with your boss. I also love that I am challenged every day in my role.

The judges mentioned your huge passion for your role - what do you think drives your passion for the position?

The passion comes from loving the industry I’m in; knowing what sport means to this country, and what sport can do in these challenging times. Also knowing what Sky Sports has done, and what my boss personally has done in the world of sport – he is a world leader in his field, and very passionate himself, which is reflected in the way he leads. My passion also comes from being consistently challenged with new things every day. No day is the same – you have to have the constitution of an ox!

Do you have any great stories from your time as an EA?

None that I can tell – but one that became legendary in the industry is my interview with Barney. I like to think I have good EQ and, when it is switched on, I can read a situation very quickly. I walked into the interview and knew instantly Barney was a man who would appreciate me being up front! So, I walked in, sat down and said “Just give me the job Barney and I will change your life, within three months, forever.” The rest is history.

How did you find the application and interview process for PA of the Year?

I was surprised because my boss did it and didn’t tell me! It was a really lovely surprise.

Tell us about the night itself?

It was wonderful, warm, and fun. A beautiful venue and wonderful food with really great company.

What's your secret to being organised and juggling multiple priorities?

A to-do list! I write one in the morning and before I leave. For itineraries, I double and triple check everything, and when it comes to Barney I do it myself – that way I know it’s organised! Nothing is left to chance.

What piece of advice would you give to others for achieving success as a PA or EA?

I would say be open, listen to your boss, watch the people around them, learn their business, and always be prepared! Always triple check everything, even when you think it’s sorted. Never be afraid to ask the obvious question – it’s usually the most important.
