CV

Every word on your CV must earn its place on the page. With recruiters spending less than a minute on average scanning your CV, it’s essential to make it word perfect.

Creating a bespoke CV for the job you’re applying to, will help it stand out to the recruiter. Highlighting how your skills match and go-beyond the desired attributes on the job advert will help you advance to the interview stage.

Prioritise your relevant experience, flaunt your expertise and skillset, and demonstrate the achievements within your career.

With attention to detail being a key part of a PA’s role, we’d recommend asking a trusted friend to read over your CV before submitting It. A fresh pair of eyes will often spot the tiny errors and possible spelling mistakes, that are easy to miss when working on the same document for a long time.

SecsintheCity have curated a PA CV template below to help further your career as a PA.

Upload your CV to site today, to discover your next PA, EA, Secretarial or Business Support role.

CV Template: (maximum two sides of A4)

Your Personal Details:

Full Name

Address

Phone Number | Email

Personal Statement:

4-5 sentences maximum, highlighting your expertise, and why your skills are suitable for the role. The personal statement is arguably the most important part of your CV to catch the eye of the recruiter; make it short, succinct, and bespoke for each job you’re applying for.

Example:

“A bi-lingual (English and German) Legal PA with 5 years' experience, specialising in Property Law [names of firms], supporting multiple senior partners. I have conducted specific commercial property work, including land registry searches and applications, whilst assisting wider conveyancing teams with diary management, client liaison and audio dictation. During my time at [firm name], I developed a new online database for travel management, aiding the coordination of travel, visas, and accommodation needs”.

Discover our ‘Writing a Personal Statement on your CV’ article to help boost your personal statement.

Skills:

Follow your personal statement with a list of hard skills and accreditations tailored to the job description. Your skills section should be for hard professional skills that make you quantifiable for the job, staying away from soft transferable skills, such as ‘teamwork’, ‘time management’, ‘creative’ etc.

Example:

Quantifiable Skills:

  • Knowledge of specific forms, applications and land registry searches for commercial property.

  • Confident public speaker.

  • Conversational German.

  • Advanced Excel Skills.

Employment History:

Start with your current/most recent position. Use a coherent and consistent structure throughout, ensuring that you include your job title, the employers name, the dates you worked there, and a summary of your main achievements.

Use active language, utilising power verbs to describe your achievements, such as ‘developed’, ‘resolved’ and ‘conducted’, instead of ‘made’, 'fixed’ and ‘did’. Dive into the specifics of how you aided your last company, whether it’s the impact you had on the company's annual turnover, the ways in which you boosted employee morale, or how you increased efficiency of the department.

Always remember to quantify. Don’t just state your fact, back it up. List your skill, demonstrate your expertise and achievement with percentages and figures (if possible) and link it back to your desired role.

Finally, only include the last 10 years of your work history. This section can include any permanent roles, temporary positions, or voluntary work you’ve conducted.

Example:

Personal Assistant | [Name of Law Firm] | June 2019 – Present

  • Overseeing hospitality and client expense budgets of £50,000.

  • Conducting project management, managing estimates and project scope, budget and timeline for projects.

Education:

Begin with your most recent qualifications. If you’re a new graduate, then it’s worth expanding on the skills and achievements acquired during your educational career, linking back to the job in hand.

We suggest listing your latest one/or two educational achievements, such as your degree and professional qualification, or your A Levels and GCSEs.

Example:

Level 2 Certificate in Business Support | [Company]

Sheffield University | BA Business Management with Honours (First) | Sept. 2013 - May 2016

References:

The 'References available upon request' sentence isn't necessary on the end of your CV, however, if you wish to mention it then we would advise that you stick to a simple one line. The main thing to note here, is to not include any personal details, including referees names or contact details.
