A ‘Celebrity PA’ role is a desired career path by many candidates. Although it may seem like a dream role, is it the right job for you?
Starting your career as a Celebrity PA can be hard work in the beginning. Most roles will require a couple years’ experience, the key is to get your foot in the door and start working within the industry. Make sure you are talking to the right people, with an appropriate recruitment agency, and most importantly…network!
In reality each celebrity is different and what they require can vary dramatically from one to another. Every celebrity will have their own expectations and will want you to be more involved in different aspects of their lives. There is not a set specification on what is required to be a Celebrity PA, however, there are a number of desired skills.
Here is a list of the top skills needed to be a Celebrity PA:
- Discretion and loyalty are key. Being a Celebrity’s right hand man involves handling all confidential matters and acting as the ultimate gatekeeper.
- Flexibility is one of the most important skills you will need. The role of the Celebrity PA is very diverse and it is not possible to say what will happen on a daily basis. Celebrity’s schedules can change at any moment and can cause each day to be very hectic.
- Multi- tasking is essential as you will be required to manage many different projects at once. A celebrity may want you to be involved in all aspects of their life, personal and professional. You may be responsible for the scheduling of the celebrity’s private, social and business calendars such as maintaining daily itineraries, public appearances and travel arrangements – these will all need to be managed at the same time.
Aside from these skills, the most important thing is personality fit. As you will be working with them so closely on a daily basis, a good relationship is essential.
