Our PA of the Year 2015 winner, Sheila Lyburn - PA to the CEO at Peter Vardy - reflects on her prize stay at Brooklands Hotel, Surrey:
"I have just returned from my two night stay at The Brooklands Hotel and it certainly didn't disappoint! After an extremely busy few months at work, I was very much looking forward to some rest and relaxation with my sister and that's precisely what we experienced from start to finish.
On arrival, we were greeted by a lovely lady on Reception who swiftly checked us in. We were staying in the Percy Lambert Suite on the 4th floor. It was a very spacious and beautifully appointed room with comfy beds, a large sitting area and a chic bathroom with large bath tub and walk-in rain shower. A hand written welcome note with fruit plate from the General Manager was such a lovely touch. One of the best features of the room was the large decked terrace area, which provided mesmerising views of the Mercedes-Benz World track. We were fortunate that the sun shined throughout our stay, thus allowing us to relax outside and enjoy watching the magic of motorcars whizzing round the track. We felt like famous people and I can honestly say that it is quite simply the best hotel room that I've ever stayed in!
On the first night we enjoyed a scrumptious three course dinner in the 1907 Restaurant, Bar & Grill. It was a stylish experience with the restaurant being modern and contemporary in both ambience and service delivery. I have a special diet and the staff were most accommodating; nothing seemed too much trouble. Breakfast was also served here each morning; a wide array of choice was offered, from freshly squeezed juices, a large selection of fresh fruits and Continental breakfast through to the extensive hot buffet. The À la carte menu, cooked to order was also an option; being Scottish, I chose the porridge and it was excellent or " braw" as we say up north. We certainly received a substantial and nutritious morning meal, giving us a great start to each day.
We spent our second morning exploring the area and sampling the delights that Mercedes-Benz World had to offer. Having a passion for cars and working for the CEO of a car company, I found this most interesting. Our final afternoon was spent getting pampered in the spa. We chose the Divine Body Massage which soothed away any tensions we had and left us feeling relaxed and revitalised. We also sampled the sauna, steam room and outdoor hot tub but a highlight was the Meditation room. This featured warming waterbeds which aim to restore and relax the body to a resting temperature in a quiet, cocooning environment. They certainly did the job and we would happily have stayed in them for the rest of the day if we could have!
Overall, we had a wonderful time - the only negative thing was that it passed too quickly. During the journey home, we took pleasure in looking at all of the photographs that we had taken and reminisced about the weekend. Feeling so refreshed and having been looked after so well, we agreed that we most definitely need to book another stay in the not too distant future."
