Who will you be working for?

What does the role consist of?
A professional role based in a busy academic publishing and highly focussed business environment. As a publisher developing teaching and learning resources, we require people with strong academic backgrounds and good communication skills.
The Editorial Assistant works closely with editors, the publishing operations team and academic writers and packagers to ensure files are supplied on time and to specification, as well as being involved in minor project management from final manuscript through to print-ready files.

Key responsibilities/duties;
- Editing multiple projects to schedule and to the quality expected
- Liaising with internal and freelance authors, subject matter experts, proofreaders and examiners to keep products on schedule during the origination and publishing services phase
- Co-ordinate the typesetting process in an effective and timely manner
- Ensure products have undergone quality and proof checks and are fit to be handed to the Project Editors to proceed to next phase
- With experience will perform final quality checks as designated
- Assist and provide coverage for Cover Designer & Senior Publishing Coordinator in case of leave/absence
- Provide administrative support within Publishing Services
- Secure and file PDFs as requested to support the VLE team and their requirements
What will the successful candidate be like?
- The ability to recognise clear, concise, well-written and grammatically correct material
- Excellent personal and communication skills
- Able to self-manage when working in a demanding environment during peak publishing cycles
- Excellent time management
- Good MS Word skills
- Knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and InDesign (desirable but not essential)
As you will be working with students in higher education, you will need to be degree educated yourself.
