Job Title:Legal Secretary

Department: Litigation Department

Reports to: Office Manager and Office Managing Partner

Term: Permanent

Job Purpose: (1) to provide secretarial support to the Litigation Department (as more particularly described below) within the Harneys’ London office; and (2) to help with reception responsibilities

General Requirements:

  • Minimum typing speed of 60WPM required
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Word and Outlook and good  MS Excel; knowledge of PowerPoint is a plus
  • Previous legal secretary experience or secretarial certificate is required
  • Offshore law firm experience is a plus
  • Previous litigation experience is a plus
  • Excellent attention to detail is required
  • Enjoy working in a busy environment and flexibility to work outside normal office hours may be occasionally required
  • Excellent communication skills with people at all levels and with a positive attitude
  • Excellent team player
  • Excellent grammar and spelling
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Ability to prioritise competing work tasks

Job Description:

  • Digital dictation
  • Drafting letters and amending documents
  • Handling expense claims for fee earners
  • Answering the phone and taking messages
  • Formatting documents
  • Diary management for fee earners
  • Corresponding with clients and general liaison with clients on behalf of fee earners
  • Proofreading of documents for formatting issues and also sense and grammar
  • Organising couriers and handling post
  • Greeting clients and occasional receptionist tasks
  • Handling billing and accounts queries for fee earners
  • Setting up new matters for fee earners and e-files
  • Occasional delivery of court bundles or helping counsel with delivery items for court hearings, etc.
  • Preparation of bundles
  • E-Filing and filing
  • Data entry
  • Assisting with marketing projects /client events and other marketing requests
