Temporary Production Database Administrator £9.50ph

Key responsibilities:

  • Participating in technology and business projects.
  • Taking ownership of performance and capacity monitoring aspects of all databases.
  • Ensure that all physical changes to database structures are fully documented in as built documentation and align to logical data models.
  • Providing support to members of the team relating to performance tuning of applications, integration, data quality monitoring and reporting.
  • Assisting Onsite engineers with diagnosing client software issues where database connectivity is a problem.
  • Creating sanitised data sets for use in development and testing functions.
  • Owning the reject and exception handling processes associated with scheduled database jobs.
  • Executing one off data migration jobs and scripts as required.
  • Performing functional testing on database capability proposed to be implemented into production.
  • Working with the IT service desk on end user / project access issues to UK databases.
  • Engaging with vendors in testing new releases to database software.
  • Ensuring that any service disruptions are reported immediately and summarised weekly to IT management.
  • Assisting the infrastructure team in sizing hardware used for database engines.

 

 

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in the following areas:

  • ITIL certification (desirable)
  • Microsoft DBA qualifications
  • Oracle DBA qualifications
  • Substantial experience working as a production database administrator
  • Ideally some experience of working as a project database administrator
  • Preferably some experience in working on data conversions between database platforms
  • Excellent skills with Microsoft SQL and Oracle SQL
  • Intermediate level experience with MySQL
  • Ideally some exposure to Oracle extent management (Oracle 8 skill)
  • Exposure to IT framework processes such as ITIL & SDLC
  • Experience of MS SQL, Oracle PLSQL, MySQL
  • Previous experience of database capacity planning
  • Management of Oracle ASM
  • Extent management
  • Conversion of data between different databases
  • Database monitoring & troubleshooting
  • Database performance tuning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
