An opportunity has arisen for an Advertising Layout Planner in the Editor’s office. Working in a team environment, the Advertising Layout Planner works mainly as the liaison between Editorial and Advertising. This is an important, proactive and reactive role, encompassing many demands and challenges. It calls for an intelligent, diligent, efficient, hard-working all-rounder. The main areas of responsibility are:
- Negotiating between the editorial and advertising teams to ensure that the composition of the newspaper is accurate ahead of that day’s edition.
- Deal with correspondence, which will include responding to readers’ letters/emails, working closely with the Managing Editors’ Office.
- Arranging and coordinating work experience.
- Assisting with the administration of car parking passes.
- Deal with internal and external post as appropriate.
- Answer telephone calls and deal with queries from other editorial/commercial departments.
- Ordering various stationery, gifts, office consumables etc., as required.
- Providing holiday cover for colleagues in the office.
- General secretarial duties, including diary management, arranging meetings, dinners and lunches and day to day ad-hoc PA duties as and when required.
Skills required:
- Discretion, tact, diplomacy and confidentiality are essential.
- Strong organisational and communication skills are essential.
- Educated to degree standard with good grammar and spelling.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office packages and/or other computer skills.
- Proactive approach.
- Excellent typing.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively whilst working under pressure.
- Being able to organise your own workload and ensuring that priorities and deadlines are met.
- A flexible approach as priorities frequently change at short notice.
- Willingness to learn extra skills associated with the production of a newspaper.
The hours of work are: 10:30am - 7pm on Monday; 11am-8pm Tuesday – Thursday and 10:30am – 6.30pm on Friday, but candidates should be prepared to work additional hours when necessary. Candidates may be required to work bank holidays, for which they will be able to claim time off in lieu. Benefits include 5 weeks’ annual holiday, contributory pension scheme, and gym membership.
